Our School Logo
Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Elementary School's NEW Official Logo was launched in March 2010.
The new official logo for Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Elementary School is rich in symbolism. The symbols used in the crest represent the Assumption of Mary, the bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her life.
At the centre of the crest is a traditional symbol to represent Mary, the letter “M”. At the core is the Cross symbolizing the centrality of Jesus Christ in Catholic Education.
The halo of twelve stars above the “M” represents Mary, Queen of the Heavens, corporeally assumed into Heaven. In Revelations 12:1, Mary is described: ”And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.”
The three stars under the “M” serve to remind us of the importance of the partnership of home, parish and school; the communion of persons within the Blessed Trinity; and the three roles of Mary, the daughter of God, the mother of Jesus and the spiritual spouse of the Holy Spirit. The crescent of stars under the “M” also recalls the moon under Mary’s feet as depicted in Revelations 12:1.
Viewed together, the symbols hint to the face of Mary: the rounded “M” being like hair that frames the face, the three stars like a necklace and the halo of stars, a crown on her head.
