Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Elementary School opened on December 2, 1962 in an 8-room facility directly behind Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Highway 20 at Highway 53 in Elfrida Township. In 1966, another four rooms were added to the school’s top level to accommodate the area’s growing population. In 2015, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School was awarded $11.9 million in capital funding for a new 599-capacity school in the Summit Park neighbourhood south of Rymal Road. Students and staff moved into the new 5,736 m² state-of-the-art school on Fletcher Road in Hannon on April 30, 2018. A blessing and dedication ceremony, officiated by Bishop Douglas Crosby, was held on June 12, 2018. On September 20, 2018, a statue of the Blessed Mother and Child, dedicated to the religious sisters, past and present, was installed on the school grounds to commemorate the integral role and selfless service of the teaching sisters in the founding of our present day school system.
